The following list entails what SnippetSentry captures when users are connected via iMessage:
- SMS and iMessage
- Messages with emojis
- Messages with mentions
- Memoji messages and stickers (archived as inline attachment)
- Digital Touch
- At this time, we are unable to archive Apple’s Digital Touch messages. This limitation is due to the way Apple handles and transmits Digital Touch data, which is not exposed in a format that can be accessed or captured by third-party services. As a result, these message types fall outside the scope of what our system is technically able to support
- Messages with effects are archived as plain text (i.e. Happy New Year! messages with fireworks)
- Voice messages are archived as regular attachments in Apple voice format - we do not do transcribing
- Share Apple Music is archived as a URL link to Apple, assuming that Apple sends this as a URL
- Invite and join events - we do NOT track this at this time.
- “Share current location” is archived as a VCF file attachment containing an Apple Maps link to the location. The location can be viewed if the file is downloaded & opened.
- Inviting collaborators is archived as a URL link to iCloud, assuming that Apple sends this as a URL
- Reactions are archived as text and only the latest is captured - i.e. no edit history
- Reply with reference to the original message - we supply several messages references in specific Headers
- Edits are stored as new messages
- Deleted messages with no indiciation they have been deleted
- Forwarded messages are archived as regular attachment but with no indication the received message was forwarded from someone else
- We currently support attachments up to 128 MB
- NOTE 1: Apple has a max attachment size of 100MB
- NOTE 2: An SMTP archiver may have a mesage size limit imposed by the server - this is out of our control.
