Officially, WhatsApp does not support the use of VoIP phone numbers and we have found that in the past months they have become increasingly strict about their users following this policy. We have heard mixed reviews from customers on if their VoIP provider will allow them to authenticate their devices with WhatsApp or if the registration fails.
As such, we cannot guarantee compatibility for VoIP numbers with WhatsApp's service. Also, we cannot guarantee that the WhatsApp accounts created using the VoIP phone numbers will not eventually be banned by WhatsApp for breaking their officially written policy.
For accounts that would like to utilize WhatsApp, we strongly recommend using a traditional mobile carrier, even if they are inexpensive lines created just for authenticating with WhatsApp.
